Bespoke Designs - The Snow Queen Costume
This time of year is always the most busiest for us at Mystic Magic with top clients like Strictly Come Dancing / Clothes Show Live and with that said these last few months have been no exception. We've actually been even more crazier than usual crafting bespoke designs for special customers and taking on a few new projects too.
One of which projects came to us in September where we was asked to create a Snow Queen costume for a customer based in New Orleans.
They were to be attending an elaborate Halloween party organised by their parents and with no place better to celebrate Halloween than the USA,
This was going to be BIG!
With the invite list set at over 400 guests to be attending our client wanted to make sure they would be the belle of the ball that stood out from the rest and to our surprise they had amazingly heard of Mystic Magic's creative reputation...
Along with the above mood board we was given a design brief of bling, sparkles, diamonds and all things icicle white, our creative juices were allowed to flow wild!
To begin with we made a start on the lace and diamond neck ruffle crafted from exquisite detailed embroidered lace with a hint of sparkle thread woven throughout. It reminded me of the glistening spider webs you get on a frosty cold winters morning.
The crown was constructed with a multitude of icicles gathered in different styles of large, small, glittered and snow white. Centred with a beautiful snowflake containing the signature Mystic Magic star and finer details of sparkling diamond encrusted embellishments and layers of draping diamond chain.
This surely added a whole new level to our previous Ice Queen crown design on an epic scale making it only for the best of Snow Royalty.
In our original brief we wanted to combined the looks of a fishtail dress and that of the half tulle skirt/bustle to create something with a WOW factor but later on in the crafting process our client decided they wanted to go with lace leggings and half skirt instead to suit their style.
For the leggings I personally didn't like the idea of buying any old normal pair, it needed to be just the right type of lace that would compliment the whole Snow Queen costume. And after some great searching using all our resources I came across the very special DG Style based in France.
Custom made to order they handcrafted me a beautiful pair of leggings in a most unique stretch lace fabric.
Once arrived we later added sparkly diamond embellishments, hand sewn and individually stuck, it took a good few days to complete.
Moving onto the bodice we covered it with a glitter white fabric and then yet again did lots more time consuming embellishing of diamonds!
It was an intricate piece but well worth it for the overall end results.
What do you think?
The fur jacket was made with a mix of short fur and long fluffy white around the lower half of the sleeves. Truth be told we had to cut a few corners along the way due to the tight completion deadline so bought in the blank fur jacket and then added the longer fur on by hand.
When it came to the shoulders as I'm sure you can imagine we had to stock up on loads of different styled icicles and ice diamonds (thank god for EBay!). It took just over a day and a half to fix all the pieces together like a 3D mosaic puzzle and then I realised maybe it would have been best to have attached them on the jacket first as it was a complete pain to evenly line up and hand sew on!
Trust me when I say these photos do no justice how breathtakingly epic this full costume was in all with it's dazzling diamonds, sparkling fabrics and glistening icicles. Many who got the chance to see it complete in person immediately fell head-over-heels in love and then said they would most certainly have it as a couture wedding dress!
