Head in the Clouds for The Voice Kids UK Final
Been a while since my last blog update but finally found time to do some quick typing!
Looking back to July, which already seems a long time ago, I was approached by the stylist/costume department of ITV's The Voice Kids who was looking for a unique designer that could push creative thinking on a tight deadline and having heard about my reputation from working with Strictly and other such places they amazingly decided to come to me.
Their brief was to create a series of giant fluffy cloud headdresses that the backing dancers for contestant finalist, Lilia, could wear and move about in.
Each of them had to both be durable, lightweight and yet obviously practical to dance in.
After some of my crazy testing and brainstorming I came up with the idea to craft the headdresses on sturdy skullcap bases filled out with giant tulle pompoms and then hand covered with fluffy fibre stuffing to get that all important floaty cloud effect.
When it came to setting the cloud shapes it took up a hell of a lot of hairspray to coat the stuffing and backcombing with a skewer!
Never the less the finished results were simply spot on, bar one slight cloud droop at the end but hey at least nothing fell off during the routine and that for me is a perfect outcome.
