Bespoke Designs - The Belly Dancer's Costume

Part way towards the end of last year just before the first leaf of Autumn fell we was excited to be approached by one of our talented model friends who to our surprise also so happens to be one wicked belly dancer!

She wanted Mystic Magic to design and create a whole new costume from scratch for her next upcoming performance.

This was fresh territory for us as I've never before crafted anything like the dazzling floaty array that you'd expect to see a belly dancer shake her booty to on the dance floor and being self taught in my trade I confess at first I was a bit panicked at the thought of sewing something together for a professional, but the excitement of setting out to accomplish a new challenge definitely outweighed the odds.


Here's some ruff snapshots of how I got on and a sneaky insight into Mystic Magic's crafting process...

 

Photo on the left shows first attempts of pining ideas together and on the right shows the set in style of what we chose to go with for the skirt. A luscious printed colourful silk fabric combined with a gorgeous aqua blue chiffon that floats like a dream.

 

All details on the bra was hand stitched to ensure optimum neatness and a professional finish. 

 



 

Sewing on all the shiny diamonds was a very time consuming task as I personally wanted to make sure each one was individually secured on and that nothing would fly off when being danced in. (I had hysterical visions of diamonds pinging around the dance floor and hitting people between the eyes!)

 

For the bra it was like fixing together a dazzling mosaic of richness. These photos truly don't do much justice to the exquisite quality of seeing it all completed in person.

 

For practicality I like to make things with multiple styles so everyone can get the most out of my work. I crafted the skirt in a way that it could be worn either on the side or with the slit at the front, both positions looked brilliant and somehow magically transformed the overall layout of the costume.

 

A luxury diamond cluster finished this design off beautifully.
