Behind the scenes of Mystic Magic's 'PROJECT ALICE' photo shoot
'All in a golden sunny afternoon...'
(Lewis Carroll 1865)
Well OK maybe not so sunny. For us it was a rain soaked, freezing early Saturday morning when we at Mystic Magic converged on an old creepy deserted farmyard in Heacham located in the middle of nowhere for the long awaited 'Alice in Wonderland' photo shoot.
After a busy several months of creating and planning the, costumes, masks, head wear, props, photographers, models and makeup, we were finally ready.
The chosen venue was a 'retired' pig farm and yep it really was pretty much well and truly retired!
Using bits and pieces found from around the spread of ivy covered rusted barns and overgrown yards we had located to the main barn interior for the Alice themed shoot. This was to be the location for the main setup piece for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party with an upturn door laying across a dilapidated wobbly table piled high with a messy confection of colourful jellies, cakes, smashed crockery, candles etc..., and not forgetting loads of whipped cream too! But more of that later...
The secondary shoots were dotted around the farm yard, including the Caterpillar's grotto surrounded by handmade magic mushrooms, the Tweedle twins nursery (Using real twin models!) and an amazing double ivy decorated swing strung from the wooden rafters of a huge empty second barn.
Our lovely selected models were extremely professional, turning up at the crack of dawn to be made up by our talented Makeup artist 'Emma Nickerson' and dressed, most not having a clue what they were letting themselves in for. But after freezing themselves through like ice lollies for the day, I think we can agree they all enjoyed the unique experience, in a bizarre sort of way.
With backup photographers in attendance (Kerry Ibrom and Simon Adams) along with others from our slowly growing Mystic Magic crew, our main man photographer, Chris arrived midday and proceeded to click away pretty much non stop for several hours using the ideas and storyline planning by myself and Jess. From what I saw of the proofs the end results are hopefully set to be amazing!
We would like to say a BIG thank you to all of our models, photographers, makeup artist, crew and of course to the generous farmer for the loan of his inspirational buildings.
Yes we did make a lot of mess, cue the whipped cream, food fight and flying broken crockery! but hopefully we redeemed ourselves by returning exhausted the following day to scrub down and clear up.
With a whole collection of photos in the editing process, this will be an unforgettable Alice in Wonderland journey with White Rabbits, Mad Hatters and screaming Queens (heads will roll!), but mistake not the idea of the same old bubbly Alice story, We have transformed and distorted it to a Brothers Grimm dark, Gothic and demented tale of madness with the unique Mystic Magic twist!
Watch this space for the release end photographic results...
